30.07.26 -At Charter House in Lusaka today, Ms. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen, Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received Eng. Kezias Kazuba Mwale, the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Secretary-General Elect.

Eng. Mwale was elected Secretary-General of the ATU for the 2027–2031 term, following elections held during the 7th Ordinary Session of the ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries (CPL-26) held in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria, from 23rd to 24th July 2026.

During the meeting, Ms. Gundersen congratulated Eng. Mwale on his victory over candidates from Cameroon, Congo Brazaville, South Africa and Tunisia. The Permanent Secretary described the election as a significant achievement, not only for Eng. Mwale, but also for Zambia, noting that it reflects the country’s growing reputation and credibility on the continent.

She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, to supporting qualified Zambians in securing positions of influence in regional and international organizations, regardless of their background or place of origin.

Eng. Mwale expressed sincere appreciation to Government for the unwavering support throughout the campaign for his candidature. He observed that Zambia’s flag continues to earn admiration in international fora through the high standards it upholds and the confidence it inspires among African countries.

Eng. Mwale will assume the Office of SG on 1st January, 2027.
