HON HAIMBE AFFIRMS ZAMBIA’S DEMOCRATIC CREDENTIALS TO INVESTMENT PARTNERS

Mulambo Haimbe, S.C., MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has highlited Zambia’s position as a stable democracy and credible partner for investment, citing the country’s strong democratic foundations as a key attribute that inspires confidence among international stakeholders.
Speaking during a reception held in Lusaka in honor of the vsiting Africa Working Party (COAFR) from the Council of the European Union (EU), the Minister emphasized Zambia’s deliberate efforts over the past three years to strengthen the rule of law and promote democratic governance.
The Africa Working Party is comprised of Diplomats from all 27 EU Member States, 17 of which conducted a visit to Zambia seeking to deepen its understanding of the country and explore new avenues for enhancing EU-Zambia cooperation.
Hon. Haimbe cited the importance of shared values in today’s interconnected global community, noting that like-mindedness between Zambia and the EU is crucial to building sustainable partnerships. The Minister further briefed the delegation led by Ms. Yamina Guerfi, Chair of the Africa Working Party, on proposed constitutional amendments aimed at reinforcing democratic principles in Zambia ahead of the 2026 general elections.
He underscored the government’s continued commitment to eliminating political violence and ensuring that the country enters its next electoral cycle even stronger.
In advancing Zambia-EUs partnership, Hon. Haimbe expressed the country’s interest in collaborating with the EU through joint ventures in strategic sectors such as mining, energy and agriculture. He extended an invitation to the European private sector, emphasizing the importance of fostering a mutually beneficial relationship between Zambia and its partners from the EU and beyond.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation remains committed to positioning Zambia as a premier investment destination that also benefits from available development financing, in alignment with the country’s Foreign Policy objectives.
