LDC FUTURE FORUM CONCLUDES WITH A CALL FOR STRENGTHENED RESILIENCE
03.04.25……….The 3rd Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Future Forum officially concluded today in Lusaka, with United Nations (UN) Under-Secretary-General Ms. Rabab Fatima stating that the sessions have laid a strong foundation for enhancing resilience among LDCs.
The LDC Future Forum, which commenced on April 1, was hosted by Zambia in collaboration with the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and the Government of Finland.
This high-level event brought together policymakers, researchers, business leaders, development partners, and UN agencies from over 50 countries to explore practical strategies for enhancing the resilience of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) against economic, environmental, and social shocks.
Over three days, participants engaged in discussions, shared policy recommendations, and presented research insights and practical solutions aimed at strengthening resilience and accelerating sustainable development in LDCs.
In her closing remarks, UN Under-Secretary-General Ms. Rabab Fatima expressed her gratitude to Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, for officially opening the Forum and setting the stage for discussions on building resilience.
She echoed President Hichilema’s sentiment that resilience is no longer optional for LDCs and emphasized the need to leverage technology to harness the untapped natural resources within these countries.
Ms. Prudence Kaoma, Permanent Secretary for Planning and Administration at the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, commended the Forum for shaping the future of LDCs by exploring innovative strategies for recovery during times of crisis.
She emphasized that prioritizing resilience goes beyond merely responding to shocks as it requires proactive anticipation, prevention, and adaptation.
Ms. Kaoma urged LDCs to unite and amplify their voices on the global stage.
Over 250 participants attended the LDC Future from held under the theme” Enhancing Resilience: Innovative Solutions for Strengthening LDCs Resilience against Systemic Shocks”.
